Formulation
Kaolinite, or Kaolin is a very fine, clay with elastic properties that is very gentle to skin. Alumina and silica (not to be confused with silicone) naturally present in kaolin, aid in exfoliation, absorption of oils and increased collagen production. Their adsorption properties bond excess skin cells and sebum to these particles and lift away grime to clear pores. Green kaolin (sea clay) is blended with aspen bark which is naturally high in salicylic acid and allantoin for light exfoliants, smoothing skin and alleviating irritation. Spirulina, a blue/green algae aid in water retention in mature skin (and provide the intense color when hydrated), and colloidal oats, vitamin E and hydrolyzed rice proteins to round out this blend by adding moisture locking properties.
This cleanser is very light and makes a creamy consistency. It is formulated to be gentle enough for dry and mature skin. As with any skincare product, patch testing should be undertaken and consult your doctor before using.
In biomass production (re: farming Spirulina with synthetic CO2 for food grade or cosmetic grade Spirulina, as used in our products), the cultured form outperforms spirulina found in nature to fix atmospheric carbon. This is really exciting and of course not the only form of carbon sequester both in nature or scientific attempts to mitigate climate change, but it is a source that has generated interest for a long time in the food industry and in skincare.
Aspen bark, like several other willow species, are effective in carbon sequestration, grow rapidly and clone easily from suckering.
